Rito Nurturing Care for Infants – Trusted Baby Daycare Hamilton
In our Rito room, children are welcomed into a calm, loving, and nurturing environment where they feel safe, secure, and deeply cared for. Through warm, respectful relationships and responsive care, our teachers support each child to develop a strong sense of belonging, trust, and wellbeing during these important early years.
We understand how significant it is to leave your baby in someone else’s care, and we strive to create a space that feels like a second home for both children and families.
Our Rito room caters for infants and young toddlers up to approximately 20 months of age.
Respectful Relationships
We believe the respectful relationships we share with our children are fundamental to their happiness, well-being, and development. Our teachers take the time to build strong connections with each child, responding sensitively to their cues, recognising their capabilities, and supporting them to develop confidence and independence at their own pace.
To foster these respectful relationships, we:
- listen and respond thoughtfully to children’s verbal and non-verbal communication
- handle children gently and respectfully
- communicate with children during care routines and transitions
- take our time during moments such as nappy changes and mealtimes to create meaningful one-on-one interactions
- support children to reach developmental milestones in their own way and in their own time
- encourage children to make choices and follow their interests
- provide reassurance, comfort, and emotional support when needed
We believe even our youngest children are capable learners, communicators, and active participants in their own learning journey.
Learning Through Play
Our programme provides infants with the time, freedom, and support to explore their environment naturally through play and discovery. Teachers carefully observe children’s interests and create opportunities that encourage curiosity, problem-solving, movement, sensory exploration, and early communication.
Our environment offers opportunities for:
- sensory exploration
- movement and physical development
- language-rich interactions
- music and storytelling
- quiet spaces for rest and connection
- exploratory and heuristic play
- early social interactions
- independent discovery
We value uninterrupted play and understand that meaningful learning occurs through everyday experiences, relationships, and responsive interactions.
Care and Wellbeing
The care, safety, and emotional wellbeing of our children underpins everything we do. Our environment is intentionally calm, inviting, and responsive to the individual rhythms and routines of each child.
Our Rito room supports:
- individual sleep and feeding routines
- breastfeeding and expressed milk feeding
- gentle transitions from home to daycare
- strong emotional connections with familiar kaiako
- secure and predictable daily rhythms
We make ourselves available to children for comfort, cuddles, conversations, and shared moments of connection throughout the day.
Transitions
We have thoughtful programmes in place to support positive and responsive transitions both from home into our Rito room and from Rito into our Māhuri room. These transitions are guided at each child’s pace, helping children develop familiarity, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging as they move through our centre.
Communication and Partnerships with Whānau
We value strong partnerships and open communication with parents and whānau. We believe children thrive when families and teachers work together in respectful and collaborative ways.
We welcome visits, conversations, and ongoing communication to ensure your child’s care and learning journey feels supported and connected between home and centre.
Children’s learning, development, and experiences are thoughtfully documented and shared with whānau, celebrating the unique milestones and discoveries of each child.
Communication Development
We support children’s developing communication skills through responsive interactions, language-rich environments, songs, stories, and the use of New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL). Signing provides children with additional ways to express their needs, feelings, and ideas while verbal language is still emerging.
